DC Welcome Scarf

DC Welcome Scarf

Each guest is presented with a ceremonial scarf signifying compassion and honored with a Tilaka (तिलक) for prosperity. Color plays an important role in Nepali society, and the khada (खादा) or scarf is typically white or ivory, symbolizing the pure heart of the giver.

These beautiful products were made by incredibly talented artists who are permanently disabled. These are artisans who face physical disability, some are blind, some are immobile.

US Sherpa first learned about this organization through Chultim Sherpa in November of 2021. Chultim is permanently disabled and is a family friend of US Sherpa’s founder Ongyel Sherpa. We wanted to show our gratitude and donate to the non-profit organization during Giving Tuesday 2021, when we started collaborating with Chultim Sherpa. We were beyond amazed by his selfless dedication to helping people who face disability. Chultim shared with us, the biggest way to support is by helping them become economically independent. This means giving jobs to keep them busy and help them with steady income.

After our first donation of 28 winter coats to this group on Giving Tuesday, we knew we wanted to meet these talented artisans. During our trip to Nepal in February 2022 we had the privilege of meeting with Chultim and visiting the main location of the organization. We were able to visit the disabled center where we were educated about handcrafting felt products. That’s when we decided to directly support them by bringing their beautiful handmade products back to the US with us. When you shop our felt collection, you are directly supporting and employing people who struggle with physical disabilities in Nepal!
